ORGANIZATIONAL ADVISORY

You’ve named the problem.

You’ve tried to solve it. It still isn’t resolving.

Capable organizations rarely get stuck because no one is working hard enough.

More often, the team is solving a symptom. Different functions may be working from different assumptions. Or an old strength may still be driving decisions in a context that has changed.

Before you invest in another solution, it is worth asking whether you are solving the problem that is actually producing the outcome.

That is where this work begins.

Empty office corner with beige walls, a white desk, and a black office chair, with sunlight casting shadow stripes on the wall.

Not an assessment of everything.

A bounded diagnostic around a consequential problem, decision, initiative, or pattern.

I review the relevant material, speak with the people closest to the issue, and look for where assumptions, incentives, decisions, and behavior diverge.

Then I give leadership a clear read on what is happening, what is driving it, and what the situation actually requires.

WHAT THE WORK IS

A disciplined look beneath the thing that isn’t resolving.

THE QUESTIONS UNDERNEATH THE QUESTION

Maybe it sounds like this.

We agree on the strategy. Why is everyone executing it differently?

We’ve changed the structure. Why are the same problems still showing up?

Are we seeing resistance, or information we haven’t wanted to hear?

Why does every decision eventually come back to the same two people?

Do we need a new strategy, or choices the current strategy requires?

Is this a talent problem, or a system problem?

THE DIAGNOSTIC

What if the stated problem isn’t the problem?

The point is to stop spending time and money solving a distorted version of the problem.

Leadership may not have made the underlying choice.

Authority and accountability may not live in the same place.

One team may be compensating for a larger system problem.

The business model and organizational model may no longer match.

The familiar explanation may no longer account for what you are seeing.

This is probably the work if…

The problem is consequential and genuinely unresolved.

Smart people have already spent time trying to fix it.

The familiar explanation no longer accounts for what you are seeing.

Leadership is willing to examine the frame, not just demand a faster solution.

You want an outside read from someone who will tell you what she actually sees.

What this isn’t

This isn’t a generic strategic-planning process, a team-building exercise, or a facilitated off-site whose primary output is consensus.

It isn’t a company-wide assessment by default. And it isn’t a giant consulting engagement that creates its own administrative burden.

We start with the thing that isn’t resolving.

Tell me what isn’t resolving.

If your organization has named the problem, tried to address it, and is still not moving, tell me what you’re seeing. If I think a diagnostic could be useful, we’ll start there.
